Witham

Witham is situated in the County of Essex, within the District of Braintree, and sits approximately 8 miles north east of the City of Chelmsford and approximately 13 miles south of Colchester.

Whilst a long-established town with historic links back to Roman times (being a stopover point on the Roman road from London to Colchester), the town itself expanded significantly in the late 1960s and 1970s when the original Greater London Council created three significant estates for London families to move as part of the ‘New Town’ overspill policy at that time.

Witham sits alongside the A12 trunk road between Chelmsford and Colchester but also benefits from a station on the London to Norwich line (journey time approximately 40 minutes to London Liverpool Street) and with a branch line junction into Braintree.

Witham has a traditional linear town centre focused around the High Street, with two small shopping centres, Newlands and The Grove, although its main commercial presence continues to be that of industrial/warehousing and it is now home to the head office of Crittal Windows, having relocated from their historic Braintree location in the mid-2000s. The main commercial areas of the town are situated around the Freebournes Road and Eastways locations to the north of the town centre. These locations offer a wide variety and size opportunity in commercial building terms, with much of the older stock beginning to see redevelopment gradually.

In the commercial property sector, Witham is increasingly seen as an overspill location for those companies who cannot find suitable space in towns such as Braintree, Colchester and Chelmsford.
